What do I need to bring to the bank to get my license plate sticker?

The Illinois Secretary of State requires us to verify your identification using a government-issued photo ID.  Your name must be on the vehicle registration and the address on your ID must match the address on file with the state.  If you need to get a sticker for someone else, you’ll need their ID as well.

In order to expedite the process, you’ll want to bring your renewal notice or the registration form from last year’s sticker. That will have all the information we need. If you don’t have that, you will need the vehicle’s VIN #, the expiration month of the current plate and the license plate number. Vehicles like motorcycles or trucks have special plate numbers with special characters. Check your current sticker. The “true” license plate number (including the special characters) will be on it.
